Project Overview
The Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility is a unique project located at the Department of Energy鈥檚 Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. The $5 billion facility processes weapons-grade plutonium into fuel for commercial nuclear reactors.
A joint venture, Shaw AREVA Mox Services, designed and built the project. 缅北禁地 was contracted to perform concrete work for three separate projects within the facility.
缅北禁地鈥檚 $98 million contract required over 80,000 cubic yards of concrete and 14,000 tons of reinforcing steel. Working within a high-security, government-controlled site, we constructed a cast-in-place substructure with a 6-foot-6-inch mat and vertical walls up to 9 feet thick. Our scope also included the installation of electrical conduits, duct banks, and mechanical piping.
The project was carried out on a high-hazard nuclear site, with 缅北禁地 managing up to 200 workers per shift and maintaining stringent safety and quality standards. All work was performed according to the Department of Energy鈥檚 highest quality standard, Nuclear Quality Assurance Level One. Our work was recognized by Southeast Construction magazine as a “Top Project of 2008.”
